READING ENRICHMENT-- FALL 2023/SPRING & SUMMER 2023
Does your child have trouble with Reading and Reading Comprehension? Are they having difficulty reading at their grade level? Are they dyslexic or have another learning disability? Being able to read and comprehend the topic are crucial skills that will affect a student's future goals.
The key to increasing Reading Comprehension is understanding how to Effective and Active Reading. Active Reading allows a student to become a more effective, focused, selective, and competent reader. This makes it easier for a student to access and understand comprehensive subjects, improving his abilities for higher future scores on future tests: STAAR, TAKS, PSAT, SAT, ACT, and AP tests. Let Expanding Horizons assist your student this summer with an intensive course built to improve both Reading and Reading Comprehension.
One Week Workshop-(Elementary-High School) 4 days Mon-Thur 2/a day-SUMMER ONLY
After a diagnostic test to determine the student's strengths and areas that need improvement
Short Passage/Short Story Reading with quizzes built to ensure proper understanding of the readings
• Phonics is the relationship between letters of the written language and the sounds, or phonemes, of spoken language.
• Phonemic awareness understands that sounds work together to form words. For example, in elementary school, your child will learn that putting these three sounds together--/d/, /u/, and /k/--will make the word duck. Mastering this critical reading skill is a common struggle for today's young readers
• Vocabulary building and Word Knowledge
Two Week Workshop-(Elementary-High School) 10days Mon-Fri 2hrs/day-SUMMER ONLY
The above plus:
• Novel Reading- From fiction to textbooks, your child probably realizes that reading assignments are more challenging in 4-6 grade, middle and high school
One Month/4 week Workshop
The above plus:
• Develop the ability to comprehend complex texts
• Learn strategies to decode unfamiliar words
• Understand and interpret the meaning of new words
• While reading, anticipate how information in a text will need to be utilized
• Learn how to analyze literature
SUMMER SCHEDULE: 3 days a week-2 hour sessions(Middle & High School only)
SCHOOL YEAR SCHEDULE: 2 days a week or 1 class each weekend-2 hour sessions
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
If your student has a processing issue or is on the spectrum, we can tailor the programs to the individual student's needs. We have over twenty years of experience helping these students improve their skills and understand that their disorders do not limit them. We show them strategies via phonics and other tools that will help them succeed for the rest of their educational journey.

The One week course is $650.00 plus $50 for materials.

No two children learn the same. At Expanding Horizons, we recognize our student's unique capabilities and talents and tailor our tutoring to maximize their learning at each stage. We can assist your student in improving their grades in a variety of subjects: math, language, reading, and the sciences. We aim to provide a comprehensive tutoring program that will enhance your student's understanding of their subjects and raise their grades.
We also provide a unique curriculum for Students with Learning Disabilities. Our program focuses on teaching students to maximize their strengths and understand how to improve on any weaknesses through learning strategies. Understanding that it is a processing difference, not an intelligence issue, is fundamental to improving learning, understanding, and confidence.
