READING ENRICHMENT-- FALL 2017/SPRING & SUMMER 2018
Does your child have trouble with Reading and Reading Comprehension? Are they having trouble reading on their grade level? Are they dyslexic or have another learning disability? Being able to read and comprehend the topic are crucial skills that will affect a student's future goals.
The key to increasing Reading Comprehension is understanding how to Effective and Active Reading. Active Reading allows a student to become a more effective, focused, selective and smarter reader. This makes it easier for a student to access and understand comprehensive subjects; improving his abilities for higher future scores on future tests: STAAR, TAKS, PSAT, SAT I & II, ACT and AP tests. Let Expanding Horizons assist your student this summer with an intensive course built to improve both Reading and Reading Comprehension.
One Week Workshop-(Elementary-High School) 4 days Mon-Thur 2/a day-SUMMER ONLY
After a diagnostic test to determine the student's strengths and areas that need improvement
Short Passage/Short Story Reading with quizzes built to ensure proper understanding of the readings
• Phonics is the relationship between letters of the written language and the sounds, or phonemes, of spoken language.
• Phonemic awareness understands that sounds work together to form
words. For example, in elementary school your child will learn that
putting these three sounds together--/d/, /u/ and /k/--will make the
word duck. Mastering this important reading skill is a common struggle
for today's young readers
• Vocabulary building and Word Knowledge
Two Week Workshop-(Elementary-High School) 10days Mon-Fri 2hrs/day-SUMMER ONLY
The above plus:
• Novel Reading- From fiction to text books, your child is probably
realizing that reading assignments are more challenging in 4-6 grade,
middle and high school
One Month/4 week Workshop
The above plus:
• Develop the ability to comprehend difficult texts
• Learn strategies to decode unfamiliar words
• Understand and interpret meaning of new words
• While reading, anticipate how information in a text will need to be utilized
• Learn how to analyze literature
SUMMER SCHEDULE: 3 days a week-2 hour sessions(Middle & High School only)
SCHOOL YEAR SCHEDULE: 2 days a/week or 1 class each weekend-2 hour sessions
STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES
If your student has a learning disability, we tailor the programs to the
individual students needs. We have over 10 years of experience helping
learning disabled students improve their skills and understand that they
are not limited by their disabilities. We show them strategies via
phonics and other tools that will help them succeed.

SCHOOL YEAR SCHEDULE(Sept-May)FALL OR SPRING: Eight 1 hour and half hour sessions-2 days a/week(1 month) or 1 class/2 hours each weekend(6 weeks).
SUMMER SCHEDULE(JULY 6TH- AUGUST 8TH):
One week Workshop- 2 hours a day/5 days or
Two week Workshop.: 3 days a week-2 hour sessions(Junior High & High School only)
The One week course is $400.00 plus $50 for materials.
The Two week course is $600.00 plus $50 for materials.
No two children learn the same. At Expanding Horizons, we recognize the
unique capabilities and talents of our students and tailor our tutoring
to maximize their learning at each stage. We can assist your student to
improve their grades in a variety of subjects: math, language, reading
and the sciences. We aim to provide a comprehensive tutoring program
that will improve your student's understanding of their subjects and
raise their grades.
We also provide a special curriculum for Students with Learning
Disabilities. Our program focuses on teaching students to maximize their
strengths and understand how to improve on any weakness's through
learning strategies. Understanding that it is a processing difference,
not an intelligence issues is fundamental to improving learning,

High School, College, and Law students. I have worked with Home School
Students and Main lined Public/Private school students. We can use the
school's lesson plans or create a lesson plan based upon the individual
needs of the student.
I charge $25-45/hr on a sliding scale that is also
dependent on each student's educational needs. Also have packages.
